Crash Course in Dance Summer Camp: Day 3

06/23/2021

Day 3 of the ITP dance camp was a success with Robert Devoe teaching a contemporary class! As usual, the day began with introductions, where everyone talked a little about themselves and about which superpower they would want. There were lots of fun answers like shapeshifting, invisibility, and water control. Then, Robert explained what contemporary dance is and what its origins are. There was a quick warmup, starting with some aerobic exercise and then going into stretching. Next, there was an across-the-floor section, where we learned some technical skills like star jumps and pirouettes. Then, we learned a combination set to "Love" by Lana Del Rey. Next, Robert explained dance improvisation and we got to improv to "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. Then, we added an improv section to the combination and filmed it! Finally, Robert taught us a super cool tutting sequence, which is a type of dance involving intricate movements, in this case of the hands. Everyone danced beautifully and the class was lots of fun!
